Chinese New Year – Dumplings Workshop

The Chinese New Year is the first day of of the first month of the Chinese Calendar (nónglì). It usually happens just before spring and hence it is usually referred to as the Spring Festival (Chūnjié).
As the most important festival in Chinese culture, it is celebrated with large family gatherings and lavish banquets.
In northern China, dumplings are a crucial part of the festivities, not only as food but also as bonding activity for family members.
Join our hosts, two friends Jiani Li and Sweta as they introduce you to different kinds of dumplings and teach you how to shape different kinds of dumplings. Jiani and Sweta are both foodies. They are loyal patrons of Tasty Talks and love the explore new cuisines, share tables with like minded people and make friends through food.
Jiani who comes from China will share her cultural Chinese New year celebrations with you. We will be cooking and dining at Sweta’s place in Jordaan.
On the menu:

beef mince, onion, (shiitake mushroom or celery)
Chawanmushi(egg, shiitake mushroom, seafood)
Vegetarian:
mushroom, spinach, carrot, glass noodle, green onion, sesame oil
soya mince, onion, (shiitake mushroom or celery)

sweet dumplings(sticky rice with stuffing of sesame or red beans with milk)
