Tasty Talks presents: Kerala Onam Sadhya
In collaboration with Rooted Mangoes
This Onam, we’re bringing a little piece of a Kerala home to Amsterdam.
Onam is one of Kerala’s most loved celebrations, and at the heart of it is the Onam Sadhya — an elaborate vegetarian feast traditionally served on a banana leaf. But a Sadhya is much more than a large meal. It is a coming together of flavours, textures, family traditions and dishes that have been prepared and shared across generations.
For this special Tasty Talks gathering, Aju, founder of Rooted Mangoes, will prepare the Onam Sadhya she grew up eating.
Expect a generous spread of Kerala red rice accompanied by parippu, sambar, aviyal, cabbage thoran, beetroot pachadi, kootu curry, olan, rasam and pulissery, alongside the little things that make a Sadhya complete — banana chips, sharkara varatti, achaar, inji puli and pappadam.
And because one dessert simply isn’t enough for an Onam celebration, we’ll finish with Semiya Payasam and Parippu Pradhaman.
Through the afternoon, we’ll also discover a little more about Onam, the tradition of the Sadhya and the stories behind the food on our banana leaves.
Come hungry, come curious, and join us around the table for a taste of a Kerala home, right here in Amsterdam.
