Chai & Conversations – Upon Us, After

Tasty Talks and SAC Art Amsterdam invite you to another edition of Chai & Conversations, an afternoon where contemporary art, food, memory and conversation meet around the table.

Inspired by Upon Us, After, this edition explores the lives of objects — how photographs, recipes, keepsakes, fragments and inherited belongings carry stories as they move through generations, places and memories. Objects are never quite static; they gather traces of the people, places and experiences they encounter along the way.

We bring this idea to the table through food.

The menu draws from the rich and shared culinary traditions of South Asia, with nostalgic dishes inspired by home kitchens and foods that have travelled across regions and borders. Each dish becomes another kind of carrier — holding memories of family, place, migration and everyday life.

During the afternoon, we will spend time with selected works from Upon Us, After, using them as a starting point for an informal art appreciation and conversation. Rather than simply looking at the works, we invite you to consider what they make you remember, notice and question.

We also invite you to bring an object of your own — a handwritten recipe, photograph, shell, piece of fabric, family keepsake, childhood treasure or any seemingly ordinary object that carries a story.

Together, these objects will become part of our shared table. We will gather fragments, exchange stories and create something new from them — an object that carries traces of the afternoon and the histories we bring with us.

Chai & Conversations is an ongoing collaboration between Tasty Talks and SAC Art Amsterdam, exploring South Asian cultures through contemporary art and food, and creating intimate spaces for looking, tasting, sharing and connecting.
